SF-2011 Girl Scouts Press Release
Girl Scouts Go Solar!
Kids who attend this year’s Solar Fiesta will find a plethora of exhibits and games
devised by the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails Council. This year’s national Girl Scout focus
concerns energy and the environment. They will share their ideas and projects in collaboration with
the New Mexico Solar Energy Association during their annual renewable energy and sustainable living
event.
At the Fiesta kids can partake of solar baked cookies, ride a bicycle that produces
energy, race solar remote controlled model cars, and participate in a solar scavenger hunt. Games
that emphasize recycling and other environmentally preferred practices will be set up and monitored
by over 15 girl scout troops.
While the kids are learning at their pace, adults can browse through a field of exhibits
where they can ask questions about renewable energy generation, alternative vehicles, sustainable
living practices, and building or retrofitting homes to use energy wisely. There will be classes
available on dozens of related topics available for a small price and some that are fee to the
public.
The Solar Fiesta takes place at the Albuquerque Academy located on the
northeast corner of Academy and Wyoming in Albuquerque on August 27th and 28th.
10am to 5pm. For updated information check the website at www.solarfiesta.org.
