have been 2 patterns of development in American
history - the traditional neighborhood pattern, and the suburban
pattern.  "New Urbanism" presenter, Rob Dickson, provides a visual
comparison showing the differences, and
showing why urbanism is more important than architecture to the green
building
movement.  </span></span><o:p></o:p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style=""><span style="">Rob is a New Urbanist real
estate
developer based in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Albuquerque</st1:City>,
<st1:State w:st="on">NM</st1:State></st1:place>.</span><o:p></o:p><span
 style="">  </span><span style="">He developed The Lofts at
Albuquerque High
and BelVedere/Urban Courtyard Living,</span><o:p></o:p><span style="">
involving the conversion of 4 historic school
buildings into residential and office uses,</span><o:p></o:p><span
 style=""> and the construction of a number of new
buildings on surrounding sites containing</span><o:p></o:p><span
 style=""> residential, retail, office, and civic uses.
The total project value is about $50 million. It</span><o:p></o:p><span
 style=""> was done in 4 phases between 2001-2008.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style=""><span style=""></span><span style="">Mr.
Dickson holds an accounting degree from Southern
Illinois University and a law degree from</span><o:p></o:p><span

He is also a licensed real estate broker, was heavily involved in the

 style=""> Motor Lodge in Upper Nob Hill into 39 rental
apartments plus a café.  Rob also r</span><span style="">ecently served
on the Environmental
Planning Commission for the City of</span><o:p></o:p><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place
 w:st="on"><span style=""> Albuquerque</span></st1:place></st1:City><span
 style="">, is a member of Congress for the New
Urbanism, the National Trust</span><o:p></o:p><span style=""> for
Historic Preservation, and the Sierra
Club, is Executive Director of the <st1:place w:st="on">EDo</st1:place></span><o:p></o:p><span
 style=""> Neighborhood Association, and was Vice Chair
of the Governor’s Task Force on “Our</span><o:p></o:p><span style="">
Communities, Our Future” whose reports are
entitled “Livability!” and “Querencia”.</span></p>
