UNM's Electrical & Computer Engineering Department will host an open
house for the award-winning SHADE Solar House, the joint UNM & ASU
collaboration project for the U.S. DOE's 2013 Solar Decathlon
competition. The Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition sponsored
by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which challenges university
students from around the nation and world to design and build
solar-powered homes. /ASUNM placed 3rd in the Solar Decathalon for
Energy Balance, 5th place in Architecture & 6th regarding Engineering
Design./

During the open house all are invited to learn about Solar Photovoltaic
& passive solar technologies used in the design of this
house. Architectural features make the house appealing & comfortable to
live in. The Virtual Energy World app, designed by UNM's Anderson
School of Management students, extends learning about energy into
Virtual Reality. Learn about the Smart Grid experiments that Engineering
students are working on in this house in the collaboration with PNM. For
more info, please visit ASUNM Solar Decathalon online
<http://www.ece.unm.edu/%7Eolavrova/ASUNM_Solar_Decathlon.htm>.

Immediately following the open house, the SHADE Solar House will be
preparing to move back to Arizona to be exhibited as a part of the
Phoenix Renews initiative. Do not miss the opportunity to see this
long-term collaborative project!
