**May 30:**"ABQ the Plan" Briefing Meeting****TONIGHT
-*/***/*/Albuquerque/*, NM

6pm at the Offices of Richard Barish/Espinosa & Associates, 7770
Jefferson Ave. N.E., Ste.100

Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry has initiated a process called "ABQ the
Plan." One of the principal components of The Plan is development of the
bosque. The Plan for the bosque proposes significant development within
the levees and would change a wild, natural riparian area into much more
of a standard-issue urban park. The final draft of ABQ The Plan: The Rio
Grande Vision was put out for comment on May 17, and comments are being
accepted until June 7. To learn more, please attend a brief meeting on
Thursday hosted by Richard Barish, Bosque Issues chair for the Central
New Mexico Group.

Meeting is in the Marshall/HUB International Building, across the street
from the Albuquerque Journal building. Please contact Richard Barish,
richard.barish at gmail.com, for more details.

*June 1 - 6: ***Cal-Earth *Super Adobe, Earth Bag Architecture Workshop
**- ***/*/Albuquerque/*, NM

9am - 5pm each day at 2105 St. Cyr SE, 87106

Earth Bag/Super Adobe is a building technology based on double curvature
shell structures (domes) made from stabilized earth. This method was
originally developed by world-renowned Iranian-American architect Nader
Khalili at the Cal-Earth Institute in California, and the workshop will
be taught by Cal-Earth alumnus Biko Casini. A hands-on, intimate
learning experience while designing and constructing multiple earth bag
structures, the workshop will focus on principles of the arch, earth bag
construction, dome building, and cistern/water collection technologies.

This course costs $400--$600 on a sliding scale. Those who wish only to
attend the first two days may also do so for $150, work-trade discounts
of $25 per 4 hour day of work done after the workshop) are also
available, plus multiple sign-up discounts of $50 per participant. All
fees are going toward paying for food (one complete meal per day),
materials, and instructor's expenses. A comparable course at the
California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture would cost over a
thousand dollars, so this is quite a bargain.
