5-Day Class (three days of classroom and two days of hands-on installation)
Dates: October 15-17 and 23-24, 2010 (Fri-Sat-Sun-Sat-Sun)
Are you interested in learning more about solar electricity? Would you like to learn about siting, sizing and safely installing a PV system?
Topics to be covered include photovoltaic components, designing and sizing a system, siting, and the configuration of stand-alone (off-grid) and grid-tie (utility-connected) systems. Safety and energy efficiency will also be covered. Solar Energy International's "Photovoltaics Design and Installation Manual" is included in the class.
The class will start with three days in the classroom. It will include hands-on labs. There may be visiting instructors. The last two days will be spent installing a photovoltaic system.
Students will have the opportunity to hear from local PV business owners, installers and other PV experts. Depending upon the group's interest, there may be evening slideshows and talks from members of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA).
The instructor is Marlene Brown. Marlene is a Past-President of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA)and is currently on the Board of Directors. She has been working with PV systems for over 15 years and has installed hundreds of systems in the U.S. and the developing world. Marlene has been teaching PV classes for over 10 years.
Our co-instructor is Randy Sadewic, a graduate of San Juan College. Randy co-owns Positive Energy, Inc., a company that designs and installs PV systems. Randy is certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).
Lunches and snacks are included in the class fee. Dress for classroom the first weekend. Dress for physical labor, with sturdy shoes (no sandals) on the second weekend.
Students must attend all 5 days of the class to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Electricians who complete the class are eligible for continuing education credit through CID, the State of New Mexico's Construction Industries Division. Expand your business by adding solar to your service line.
Classes will be held in Alamagordo, NM (208 miles from Albuquerque, 68 from Las Cruces, 90 from El Paso airport).
