Sad Facts

 The sad facts are:

• New Mexico presently has zero mandate for renewables in its energy portfolio,  and receives roughly 90% of its energy from mostly aging and dirty fossil fuel plants, and about 10% from the Palo Verde nuclear plant in Arizona. 

• New Mexico residents are on average responsible for generating several tens of tons of carbon dioxide per person per year. CO₂ is the most important human generated greenhouse gas, and global warming is going to severely damage New Mexico.

• New Mexico is dragging its feet with respect to renewables even compared to neighboring states, despite the fact that New Mexico has more wind resource than California and fantastic solar resources. Click here for a complete discussion of the Incentives in our neighboring states.
