for the People!
This yearís NMSEA Annual Conference is being held on the Bernalillo High School Campus, a little north of Albuquerque. The conference begins Friday evening, September 29th, and lasts through Sunday afternoon, October 1st. As part of this yearís conference there will be a one day sustainable living and renewable energy fair open to the public which NMSEA calls a Solar Fiesta. This will take place on Saturday, September 30th. Workshops and activities for the conference attendees will coincide with those being presented for the Solar Fiesta.
The Solar Fiesta will feature booths and workshops on all kinds of alternative building materials, green building techniques, solar science projects, solar and wind energy products, entertainment, food, a raffle for a small PV system, and more.
Admission to the booth exhibits area is free! (except for a $2 parking fee).
Admission to workshops is included for conference attendees, and $5 apiece for general public.
Booths will be outdoors in the courtyard of the campus. There will be a large tent for those exhibitors wishing to be enclosed. Workshops will be held inside classrooms and the main lecture hall on campus.
As part of the educational aspect of this fair, NMSEA will help any who need electricity for their booths to get it from renewable resources.
The Solar Fiesta will also have classes and workshops available for a minimal charge to the public on all aspects of Green Living. All persons attending the Annual Conference will automatically get into all the workshops and classes associated with the Solar Fiesta free of charge. The Solar Fiesta exhibit area will be open to the public, though a $2.00 fee for parking will be charged at the front gate. Conference goers and exhibitors will have parking passes
At this time plans include exhibits and classes on Solar Cooking, Model Solar Car Races, Alternative building materials, a Solar Creativity Corner for kids, Green Building Practices, Fuel Cell Basics, Solar for RVís, Energy 10, Solar Water Pumping, Alternatively fueled vehicles, and whatever someone thinks of next. We will also encourage the participation of related environmentally focused organizations such as organic growers, and permaculture
The Annual Conference will also feature seminars on Marketing Renewable Energy and Green Building in New Mexico, and working toward creating a demand for Green Electrical Generation in our utility market.
This conference is a vehicle for bringing the principles and practices of sustainable living directly to the people of New Mexico, in the tradition of the Peter Van Dresser small village development focus which NMSEA has honored for many years.
Area Attractions: Bernalillo is a small community
with a lot of attractions. There
are many older adobe buildings in the area as well as earthships in neighboring
Placitas. The area of the
conference boasts many small restaurants, a drug store, and gas stations.
More elite restaurants can be found in the town of Bernalillo, and down
Hwy 44 at the Star Casino. Of course, both Santa Fe and Albuquerque are less
than an hourís drive away.
